Among the 10 fastest growing metro areas, Atlanta is ranked at the top of the list for affordability. Affordability was calculated by comparing the median income to the median home prices. Atlanta has the lowest median house price, but the 5th highest household income. This favorable ranking is possible because the Atlanta area has no physical barriers (oceans, mountains) and local governments that support and permit development. Second place on the list went to Houston, and third place went to Dallas-Fort Worth. Seattle came in last with the second highest incomes but the highest house prices.
